On 14th October, the founder of Child Welfare Scheme (CWS) received an Unsung Heroes Award at a ceremony at Claridge’s in London, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the welfare and health of children in Nepal.
Douglas Maclagan, 41, originally from Wapping, London, set up CWS 13 years ago after a sick Nepalese baby died in his arms while he was on a trekking trip in the Himalayas.
Douglas was so moved by his experience that he has dedicated his life to helping the poor and needy children of Nepal initially funding two basic Day Health Centres in the mountains with his own savings and working day and night to earn enough money to keep them going. The Award was presented by the Celebrities Guild of Great Britain at a Gala Evening in London.
Steve McCall, chief executive of CWS, nominated Douglas for the Award. He comments:
“This is a truly amazing and inspiring story. Douglas gave up a career, a house in London and a comfortable way of life to help the children of Nepal after a life changing experience. I am delighted that Douglas’ tireless work is being recognised.”
