We are delighted to announce that one of our Nepalese partner organisations, ‘Child Welfare Scheme Nepal' has been given the prestigious STARS Impact Award for health in South Asia, which comes with a $100,000 donation for their projects working with children in Nepal.
The Awards recognise one recipient in each category of health, education and protection, and the recipients are selected against a range of criteria which reflect the hallmarks of effective practice, and demonstrate a positive impact on the lives of the children they support throughout their activities.
Amr A. Al Dabbagh, Founding Chairman of the STARS Impact Awards says, "Children are the world's natural visionaries, remarkable in their ability to laugh, play and dream when times are hard, and always ready to seize opportunities to bring brighter futures. The vision of the STARS Foundation is for young people facing poverty and insecurity to have such chances for empowerment.
The STARS Impact Awards are committed to helping already effective organisations become even better by enhancing their capacity to deliver vital services on the ground. By supporting these outstanding organisations, and recognising the deep and lasting impact they have on entire communities, the Awards also inspire others to reach similar standards of excellence, resulting in increasing numbers of vulnerable children being given the chance for a happier, safer life.
STARS is proud to be associated with the six exceptional organizations in Africa and South Asia being recognized with Awards in 2009, and excited at the prospect of building lasting partnerships with them. Learning more about their incredible achievements has also reinforced our resolve to encourage more organizations to follow such examples of effective practice. We are therefore delighted that the Impact Awards will extend their range even further in 2010 by opening up to the Middle East, East Asia and Pacific regions."
The STARS Impact Award will help, ‘Child Welfare Scheme Nepal' to reach out directly to many more marginalised children.
Child Welfare Scheme Nepal's holistic efforts are directed towards addressing local needs in the context of the international development priorities of reducing child mortality, improving maternal health and access to education.
The STARS award was received by Devendra Gurung, Chief Program Coordinator of ‘Child Welfare Scheme Nepal' at a ceremony which took place in London on the 10th of October this year. Devendra also met with CWS's Chief Executive, Steve McCall, and Chairman, Michael Jacobs, for some sightseeing!
