Everest Base Camp Trek 2008
Our fantastic group of 15 Everest Trekkers returned triumphant, having successfully completed a 14 day trek to the base of the world's highest mountain - hoorah!
It was a tough trek, with numerous challenges along the way, including the mountainous trail, the altitude, the bitter cold, and sickness in the group, but the team remained determined to complete their goal. Unfortunately one of our group had to turn back during our summit to base camp due to illness, but she put up a fantastic fight and remained with us in spirit all the way. We would like to say a huge well done to all our trekkers, for completing this incredible challenge, and for helping to make it such an enjoyable trip.
The Everest Trek has also been an enormous fundraising success, with a total of £64,855 raised so far for CWS projects, which we are absolutely delighted with! Thank you once again to all our trekkers who have been outstanding fundraisers, and put so much hard work and effort into raising money for children in Nepal. Many of them are still fundraising now, so we hope to increase this total to £70,000 by the end of 2008!
At the end of the trip the trekkers were able to visit CWS's projects in Pokhara for themselves, and find out the huge difference that their contributions would make. Here are some examples of what the amount of money raised from the Everest Trek could mean for the children we support:
- It could keep our 14 day care health centres running for 2 years, providing early years education and healthcare for 3-5 year olds, giving children a good start to their education, and mothers a safe place to leave children while they are at work in fields
- It could pay the entire cost of JYOTI Street Project for over a year and a half, providing children with a safe place to sleep, food, a bank, washing facilities, healthcare, opportunities for education and vocational training
- It could pay the entire cost of Asha Health Services for 6 months - our largest programme - including healthcare in hostel, our mobile clinic, youth services, safe motherhood, and day care health centres
